WRINKLE RELAXING INJECTIONS
Botox is the tradename for Botulinum toxin type A& it’s mainly used as a muscle relaxant for the treatment of wrinkles. Apart from being used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, it’s also used to treat migraines and excessive sweating. It also reduces and delays the appearance of new lines by relaxing the facial muscles. The optimum results are seen between 10-14 days of treatment and can last between 3 to 4 months.
Ageing is associated with development of wrinkles due to the combined effect of loss of collagen, genetics, sun damage and pollution. These effects can be exacerbated by smoking and stress. Botulinum toxin works by temporarily relaxing the muscles, which in turn softens the lines and wrinkles.
Botulinum toxin injections can also be combined with other treatments for a more rejuvenated and fresher look.

Is the injection painful?
A very fine needle is used for the procedure and most people do not describe the procedure as painful, hence there is no need to use any local anaesthetic.
Can all wrinkles be treated?
No, it’s not effective on static lines i.e. the lines present without expression.
What is the duration of treatment?
The treatment usually takes approximately 30minutes.
What are the side effects?
Common side effects include temporary bruising, localised redness of the skin and mild swelling. Sometimes it can cause a droopy eyebrow if the injectible spreads away from the treatment area, but the chances of this can be reduced if instructions are followed properly. This will be discussed in detail during your consultation.
When can I apply makeup?
The area of treatment should be free of any makeup and we would advise you not to apply any makeup for 12 hours following the treatment unless it is mineral make up.
Any aftercare instructions?
We would advise to avoid exposure to excess of temperature, lying down, leaning over and any vigorous exercising for atleast 6 hours after the treatment. We would advise you to attend for a free follow up appointment in 2 weeks time to assess the results. You would be offered a free top-up if needed.
